A Mad 20 hour Jam and Craftworld 2.5

CraftWorld v2.5 (as we are calling) is now officially bigger than v2.0. It is an ENOURMOUS content, bug and gameplay update and we have just submitted it to the free and paid versions.

We began last week, with a third person; Jon. While we worked to complete the 2.5 update, he played it for between 8 and 14 hours each day shouting out discoveries, bugs and suggestions right next to us. For the past 8 or so days, we have started at about 11:00 and pushed on to at least midnight every day, except Monday. We finished at 8:00am on Monday.

As a result, obscure input, inventory and art related issues that normally do not interfere too badly, and skip through to later updates have been caught and removed. New toolsets have been added, and crafting templates have been changed to make more sense, and use fewer resources. The survival guide has been re-written to be of more help, and the creature system is far more complex and interesting than first announced. (Consider it a surprise for 2.5)

The Free and Paid versions will now be at the same versioning again. We’re sorry for the lag between the versions. V2.0 and V2.5 have both been huge overhauls to CraftWorld.

Soon we’ll gear up the frequent videos like we had when we were working on Blast! to give the PC and Xbox gamers a bit more of an insight into how CraftWorld is progressing on its two bigger brothers. But for now, we need to rest up and power on to the new item system and flesh out the last of the missing content features. Creative mode is a big one.

Thanks for reading!

    Is 2.3 submitted??

    • Jarryd says:

      Yes.

Free and paid will be updated to v2.5.

      • Tarik says:

So skipping 2.3? That’s awesome! When was it submitted? I just want to say that I have a feeling this game is gonna be huge in a year. Only 3 devs too! You guys are beast!!

        • Jarryd says:

Three devs? God I wish. It’s Daniel and myself building CraftWorld. Our Sound/Art guy has begun dropping by once a week, and John, our tester got addicted for a week and really pitched in for v2.5.

So we get help from the Occasional 3rd, but 2.0 Studios is a 2 man operation.

          • Tarik says:

Hey I can start testing. :D Just kidding, that’s just another way of me to start listing my wants. But I’ve discovered a few things.

For the first’s there’s some bugs, when you place a stone, sometimes it doesn’t show up for some time. And when you cut blocks (especially stone brick slabs) they don’t dissapear. I think you guys took care of this already.

I’ve checked out the app reviews and there is a ginourmus demand for a map. I would live this too, because I go exploring far from my house, and I have to die so I can find it. I’ve lost alot of stuff.

And i go exploring because of few things.
1.) Trees. There’s barely any. You guys should make jungles. I know you guys got the trees grow and decay part down, but still. And it takes too long to cut it down.

2.) COAL. I’ve only found 10 prices of coal so far and i have a ginourmus mine! I keep it lit up by keeping the top open. I’ve dug in a square, about 15×15 square all the way down. 10 coals, 16 iron, and 0 gold or anything else. Please make coal easy to find as in minecraft. I know you guys wanna push away, but there’s frikkin lots of coal in minecraft. I don’t k iw what to do with all the stones so now i have a huge catsle.
I INVITE THEE FOR SOME TEA WHEN MULTIPLAYER COMES OUT.
You guys should double the amount of coal, iron, gold and everything else. Mining should be easy, and you find good stuff Alot when you go deep in. Because my mine is pretty much 216 blocks in.

still a beautiful game. And make chickens easier to find too! And there should be villages filled with zombies when multiplayer comes out, and you and your friend go and infiltrate it and find awesome things.
And thank you so much for the bow. I do lots of archery now that my legs broken (I used to do freerunning before) so i can’t walk for some time. You guys have been a great painkiller! Thank you so much and good luck!

            • Jarryd says:

Hey Tarik, I hope your leg heals good and proper and the proposition of Tea in Multiplayer sounds fantastic. It’ll be a potion. :)

I’ll have to bang up another blog post in regards to the resources and the Map. There is actually already a map in the game and you should be able to craft it. Find some tall grass, knock it down and pick it up. In the inventory it should say “Hemp”. It’s not for smoking, it’s for making string and later on, canvas rope and cloth. The template is 2×2 Hemp in the personal, or workbench crafting areas.

WARNING: This is incomplete territory you are in, it was ran on the phone once, for 2 minutes a week ago. It is a live map, with no fog and no markers. Just an ariel view of your area. It may crash, or run horribly or both. This was NOT meant to be accesable for these reasons, but we forgot to remove it.

Materials have also been trippled in quantity, and the seam sizes dropped by half in help you find things. There are no creatures in you present version, but in the 2.5 they are common. Chickens drop 1-3 feathers.

We plan on adding more bows, like a crossbow and a recurve. And more arrows.

THE INCREASED MINERALS WILL ONLY APPEAR IN AREAS YOU HAVE NOT DUG OR PLACED ANYTHING IN. Due to the older areas having saved already, and we can’t change them.

          • Tarik says:

Can you take a pic of a long grass and post it somewhere? all the long grass i can find i cant cut and pick it up.

          • Tarik says:

            Ahh i see. Thanks!

            • Jarryd says:

              Tarik! Wait! Come back!

I just realized that Hemp used to be called “Hops”! It’s a name and art thing, so if you collect hops, it will become hemp. I gotta write that post. Just like how iron tools will become bronze with the update.

  • Grant says:

Just wanted to let you guys know that you guys are AMAZING! You guys work crazy hours to get this game going and make it awesome and manage to keep us all informed about it too! Thanks for all the hard work guys! Craftworld is the BEST!

  • austin says:

What time is the update and when =)

    • Jarryd says:

Hey Austin, it should be around the 12th of June. Give or take a few days, as judging by our telemetry, there are quite a few reviewers over at MS required for a Pass.

  • tonzaza says:

Why doesn’t my nokia lumia 610 have the 2.3 update in it?

  • Michael says:

When will we be able to update paid version to 2.3.or 2.5….and keep doing the amazing work

  • Timo says:

Craftworld is a great game but I think there should be more coal in the maps, because it is way too rare. For example I have a huge mining operation that links 3 houses together and from it I have found about ten coal from it. But that doesn’t hurt the game because it’s still awesome.

    • Jarryd says:

I highly agree. That’s why we put in 4x the coal in v2.5.

Could you please craft a camera, and email me a screenshot of your creation? I’ll put it on the blog.

      • Tarik says:

jarryd, does this coalx4 affect the mines that are already started? Can I keep mining there after the update?

And daaaamn I got lost looking for hemp, found 48 coals, 27 irons and 2 rubies.
I couldn’t find my way home so I just killed myself.
And In the above comments you said my world has only been tested for 2 mins, and And its incomplete, am I in like a nuke ,one or something? :D

And im starting to find more coal, rubies and gold in my mine. Guess you just had to dig down deep!

So anyways I can’t find hopz or hemp. So all the grass or anything I find isn’t cuttable. Can you triple that in quantity for v2.7?

Crap I meant am I in a nuke zone or something

        • Jarryd says:

The deeper you go, the more you find. Hit bedrock and dig out large rooms 2 blocks wide, with walls 2 blocks thick.

The world you see is divided into 16x128x16 “Regions”. Each region fits perfectly with it’s neighbours, although if you dig on the gap between 2 regions, you may see a blue flash. That’s a very complicated bug relating to WP7 devices being single core. If you have dug or placed in a region, it will be saved. If you have just walked across it, then it will not. After the update, any region that has not been saved, will have the trippple minerals and ores.

Plants like hops, sugar cane and others are all rare. That way, a farm of them will feel valuable. Although we do need to up their frequency a little.

          • Tarik says:

How do you know you hit bedrock? And what do you suggest? Should I stay here or move my gigantic catsle over?

            • Jarryd says:

Leave your castle. Just tunnel 20 blocks in a direction you’ve never been, and keep mining in that direction. When the update is out of course.Bedrock is aqua blue, you’ll know it when you see it.

          • Tarik says:

I can tunnel 20 blocks in my current mine. Would that work?

And when you said leave your castle I didn’t get if I should stay or move. and ill keep on mining down till I hut bedrock. I’m not there yet
And what can I currently do with copper?
One last thing. When you’re playing and your battery ends, you lose things in your chest. I found lots of iron but lost it. Its because of the save, I know but that irons been in there for some time.

And there are caverns near me who I’ve not touched. Can I use those?

            • Jarryd says:

Mine Downwards to bedrock. But when you update, move North, East, South or West by at least 20 blocks into an area, you have not touched. Be it tunnel, building on top or even a chopped tree. Is that copper blocks or copper nuggets you have? If it is the former, build a wall in your house. When you get the update, knock it down and you can make bronze with it.

I’ll add a timer based save to the chest. It’s great to hear you’re playing CW until the batter runs flat, but if you can, keep it on charge while playing. Lithium Ion batteries like to be kept full, and will last longer.

          • Tarik says:

            Alriiight!

No im not at bedrock yet.
But theres a bug or something, when im trying to mine, chop trees, or harvest anything, Sometimes it doesnt, and i have to drag my finger elsewhere to harvest. Like theres this tiny little spot that allows you to harvest, but if youre tapping on the wrong spot, it doesnt work.

I got a huge castle and im ready for anything. ive got turrets, towers, archers places, rooms, balconies, i hope you guys make something like a zombie attack where zombies just storm and you kill them all. That’d be awesome.

            • Jarryd says:

Tap under the block. Not all plants can be directly clicked yet, but destroying what they grow from does the same. Looks like we need a means of letting players increase the ammount of enemy spawns.

          • austin says:

are you saying we could find the hop but not use it yet and what else can you use rubies for because i already have a reserection stone and have it place and the jump and place doesnt really work because i die sometimes when i do that after i mine and get a bunch of good stuff

  • austin says:

Jarryd what does Dev stand for

  • austin says:

what is a place holder does that mean it will come out in the future or dies it mean something else and i cant find an account how do i make one on this website bc when i say log in it doesnt have a register button so how do i register.

and please put the guide on how to make the items in the game bc i believe there r more items u can make that the book doesnt say.

tarik is right about those block glitches but i think i found a glitch sometimes when i destroy leaves and other things they disappear but an hour later when i play again they r there after i deleted them. and another glitch or bug i dont know but when i goto the home screen it says the word adumantuem/ its some long word but in the game i cant find any.

i know this is a lot sorry but i think this might help you (is there a number i can txt my pics of my world to so u can see it instead of email i need a new email sorry)

    • Jarryd says:

Placeholder means that when somehting is not done yet, you have something to fill the gap. Like the Hemp in the world, it looks like grass. The code works like hemp, and crafting works like hemp, but the art is “Placeholder” so it looks like grass.

Whip up a new hotmail, you’ll need the skydrive when windows 8 comes out anyway.

Book Crafting will correct the lack of crafting templates.

There is adamantum, it is very deep in the earth, and very rare. It is bright red, and hard to miss. It is stronger than diamond, and making an adamantum tool set is a long term challenge.

I’m in Australia, if I were to TXT or MMS you and vice versa, it would cost a fortune for both of us. You’re 13 right? Your mum would have your guts for garters if you ran up a bill like that.

  • BraveSaintStuart says:

So, just so that i’m clear, the latest available version for WP7 is 2.0, correct? I haven’t been able to find 2.1 at all, and I’m assuming I shouldn’t be able to find 2.5 until June 12th as mentioned above. Is this correct?

    • BraveSaintStuart says:

Interesting… I just went back to check the Marketplace. CraftWorld Free is at version 2.2. CraftWorld paid version is at v 2.0.

    • Jarryd says:

      Yes.

I’ve tried to make it public in the forums, my blog and twitter that there is currently a disparity between free and paid versions. 2.5 ran behind schedule, and we did not wish to submit an update to paid that would be in review, blocking another update that would once again leave the free version ahead of the paid. v2.5 corrects that.

If it is of any consolation, there are only 40 code revisions between v2.0 and v2.3, and the changes were fairly substantial. v2.3 vs v2.5 on the other hand has over 350 code revisions, which is about the same difference v1.3 had from v2.0.

  • dwayne says:

Hey Jarryd. im just getting into the block world genre and i played minecraft recently and then i got CraftWorld on my wp7 phone. i see alot and better potential then minecraft and i want to say thank you! i just hope you can do something with gold. and i have yet to find diamond. is it possible to have gold or diamond tip ax, pick, etc. the app is super and i cant wait for enemies and animals.

    • Jarryd says:

Diamond is a usable crafting Material in v2.5, and can make swords, axes picks etc…

CraftWorld is still very young, and we wish to present a different game to Minecraft. Ideally, people will have both installed because they offer different experiences.

      I’m glad you are happy.

  • austin says:

9 more days u should have a countdown on the website

  • austin says:

    Jarryd I have a mine area I mined about 67 blocks deep I found 17 coal about 4-5 gold 3 diamonds about 13 ruby’s and 6-7 iron

  • sammob says:

Will they be beds and/or day and night cycles.

  • austin says:

jarryd will there be a switch or button to turn off the day/night cycles so u can keep it day like now and i was wondering if you can update it on the 11th instead of the 12 or even earlier

    • SerkanLives says:

      Thats a bad idea sorry..
day night cycles will be changeable when the creative mode is in review…

      .SerkanLives

    • Tarik says:

Jarryds reply’s probably gonna be at 2 am or something so let me help.

If you want to update a game, here’s what you do.

      1.) Make the update.
2.) Send the update to Microsoft for them to review and play the game to see if the game goes by their rules and doesn’t break the rules. This process, the one wrlere in right now, takes up to 3-12 days. The developers of the game, as in jarryd or Daniel, have no control over this.
3.) Microsoft publishes the update and you can download it.

Dude im really eager for the update too. I know how you feel.

And jarryd goddamit I lost 5 adamantium in the chest. You better fix this. :D

      • Jarryd says:

        Thanks Tarik.

Beware that chest bug. It’s fixed in 2.5, but extends to the smelter also. When you use these, put a block above or remove a block above them to force the background auto save.

        • Tarik says:

Crap my bad i didint see this before i asked you 2 seconds ago.

Alright thanks man! And there’s a glitch where you can put stuff in chests, save, get back in, take it out, then get out before the chest saves and now you have double that material.

Kinda feel like im cheating, but it’s fixed in 2.5 so it’s all good.

          • Jarryd says:

Hm, I had’nt realized people could game this bug into an exploit. Explains the lack of complaints. Use it to recover, but don’t milk it too bad. We’re working on Creative mode for that.

          • Tarik says:

Only used it once and that’s for iron.
I hope this gets fixed. The temptation is too strong.
All jokes aside, im at bedrock, and have been there for a while, and wow there is lots of coal here. And diamonds. And gold. And rubies. Not too much copper or adamantum, but I think its supposed to be like so. That would make it too easy. And are the only minerals I cann use iron stone and wood? Do I have to wait for the update for the others? And for 2.6 I think you guys should make them receive a map in the beginning, because it’s fairly hard to make one.

            Thanks alot man!

  • sammob says:

Is the update coming on June 12th because I have been waiting for weeks for this and will we have to start a new game

    • SerkanLives says:

Des the Update comes at the 12 th of June

      We all waiting..

      .SerkanLives

    • Tarik says:

The update will probably, PROBABLY be around June 12. it might be sooner or later, jarryd has no control over this, but he predicted around that time. So don’t get pissed off at them if it isn’t. And no all the game files are saved after the update. So you will have all the saves. Have fun!
