Patch 2.0 Approved. Patch 2.1 Submitted.

The 2.0 patch has been approved a few hours ago, and should be availble within the next few hours, or maybe a day. That means we can submit version 2.1! So we did.

A Little garden and a hot smelter. PC Version

A Little garden and a hot smelter. PC Version

The 2.1 update is also fairly large, although not exactly another re-write. However in the v2.0 era of CraftWorld it is very easy to add new items and behaviours:

  • You can pickup mushrooms, found in swamp biomes and then eat them for a little health
  • Flowers can be picked up (3 kinds)
  • Dark Trees can drop apples. Generally about 3 per tree.
  • Clay blobs added. Split clay into 3 blobs, and use them to create a bowl. More plans for clay later
  • Make a Crappy salad with mushroom and apple.

The touch controls have been improved, and we have found and removed a few minor bugs. The smelter creates light and flames, and there is even a material seams bug that one sharp eyed gamer spotted in our most recent post. That has been corrected, and will ensure you get richer as you get deeper in the earth. But there is a small scattering of goodies near the surface to tempt you down.

That brings me to Creatures, which is our No.1 priority right meow. Daniel is working on a chicken as a starting point. It has basic AI, items to drop and craft with, is an ideal size and can be caught without too much difficulty and is a native to the plains biomes. At the same time, we are also working on the weapons. The Bow is to be our first true weapon (technically the Axe counts), and is coming together nicely. This will not be the only ranged weapon you can create, so theres a bit more too it.

We want to pick up the pace on updates, so we chose not to cram the chicken and bow into this one.

Thanks for reading!

That meow gets my OCD (Obligatory Cat Disorder) every time! XD

Sounds awesome! I like that you have to catch chickens. Not only is this more realistic, but helps to distance you from some other games, so BRAVO! The more you can (realistically) keep your game from cloning other game(s) while you’re creating, the less work you’ll have to do later. People will find differences for sure when the play it, but people looking at screenshots may see a Minecraft clone. Sorry to be saying this so much, but I’ve seen MC fanboy reactions to much, and I badly want this game to succeed. I’m afraid of the backlash and slow reception your game may garner if it’s too similar to MC. However, I also realize that you devs don’t have unlimited time/funds, so you will have to decide yourself how important it is. Something to keep in mind while you create your game. I know that most of the graphics are placeholder that you plan to replace, so maybe I’m all wrong, but I think it would still help early interest in your game to not have it looking too similar to MC.

I also like to hear that Bows will not be the only ranged weapon! So exciting!

    Keep up the great work!

I completely agree with that statement.

CraftWorld is becoming Oblivion with blocks, but still needs an RPG system and shaders to seal the deal. We’ve got physics, which interacts with the persistent block damage very well. I used the bow to knock down some leaves from a tree last night, and scored an apple out of it. The default texture really needs to be removed, it’s an ugly problem.

How do I update. The game with latest version?? Please reply

  • Tyler says:

Sweet! Keep up the good work 2.0 Studios! :D

  • Tyler says:

Is it just me or when you walk around it seems a little slow even on the low settings. The physics is really cool though but I feel like I can fly haha. I cant make the red bricks and the max hold for a block set is 34. Before the update wasn’t it 99? I really like the biomes though and the graphics are soooooo smooth. If I knew what the dice was for I wish I could make more lol. Oh I dont know if the particle setting is what’s messing it up but I dont see the fire from the furnace. I like the direction with this update though. OH AND THANK GOD FOR GIVING THE TOOLS MORE HEALTH!!!! Now if we could repair them at the work bench :D

    • Jarryd says:

When you say slow do you mean:
      a) Poor performance
      b) Character controller needs to hit the gym and pick up the pace

The crafting template for the redbricks has changed. It is now clay and sand, not stone and sand. Give the survival guide a quick read, the trapdoors and a few others were modified also.

Glad to hear you noticed the graphics improvements. We’re very proud of the engine powering CraftWorld.

The dice can show you 1 of 6 numbers when used //jk, or crack earth if dropped off a cliff a few times. They’re more about proving the physics is real than anything.

The tools were never tweaked in the previous updates. They follow a simple algorithm to ensure every set is sufficiently better than the last. We still need to add few new types.

The particles are a bug linking the HDR setting to to the particle setting, (woops). Fixed in v2.2

Repair hammers you say? Tools support them currently, but instead break instantly because it saved time to do so. At least in v2.2 a busted tool spits the stick back out, so you get something.

      Good feedback, thankyou.

where can i get a beta of craftworld

  • Tyler says:

Well he would have to pick up the pace but I found that after tweeting my settings bcuz they get reset everytime I start up craft world when I change the HDR he moves amazingly fast then chills out after a few minutes. Well the health bars on the tools is a good change. I think i encountered a problem with the chest. I put some items in it, a few torches and stone slabs and cactus(which i still dont know what is for) and they disappeared. Also i cant pick up my beach ball or dice and it would be nice if i could for those long falls or if i dig a really deep hole and kill my self with the dice haha. Oh but for repairing the weapons i was thinking just in the center slot of the working bench put the damaged tool but not yet broken and fill the slots for that weapon of the material used to make it in the first place. Kind of like changing the blades in a razor. I should probably write in the forums about that. After using the torches I applauded the look and cant wait to see the fire. Can’t find a mushroom and I figured out the red brick out of my own stupidity.

    ///////////////////

Actually I figured out the movement speed was delayed by the HDR. When you reset the HDR settings or change them and then change them back to off you move actually really fast. However it doesn’t stay that way for very long.

Yea I figured out the red bricks out on the account of my own stupidity haha. Yes, keep the craftworld engine, it is very purdy.

I wish the dice either did more damage depending on which side it lands on so that way i could kill my self faster if i dig a hole and get stuck there haha. Then the health bars for the tools look sexy.

I dont mean repair hammers but you know how the work bench is a 3×3 well i thought it would be nice if the tool ment for repair was the center piece and the materials meant to be for building the tool would be in the original places and vary for material for the specific tool.

    • Jarryd says:

Performance related to HDR, or movement speed related to HDR? I’ll investigate.

Repairing will make use of the Anvil work area.

Dice do more damage if they land on their corners. We had to be careful to keep it limited, or else they would tunnel to china. Fun to watch.

Settings file has been fixed in 2.3

Please email us more information regarding items in the chest vanishing.

      Thankyou tyler.

  • Tyler says:

How does the bowl work? I cant figure out how to make it. The cactus is a nice fence to keep soon to be ai out of my structures :)

    • Jarryd says:

Good point. We’ll need to make them avoid the cactus.

Ugh, a few rendering issues in the book. Theres something for v2.3, thanks tyler.

      Do this (x == nothing, c == clayblob)

      XXX
      CXC
      CCC

      • Tyler says:

I tried everything but I cant figure out if making clay blobs is 2×2 or a 3×3 craft. On a side note I found gold and snow for the first time. The granite sea floor was interesting with coal embedded. Is there anything we can do with good now or not yet?

        • Jarryd says:

It is a 3×3 Craft, but let me warn you that the CraftWorld crafting system is deeper than that. Some 2×2 crafts are limited to the workbench, and it is possible for us to create additional 3×3 crafting areas that respond to crafting templates differently, or support specific crafting templates one would assume are possible in all 3×3 areas.

Then there’s the loom, which is a 4×4 crafting area, we need to get in some time in the future.

  • Tyler says:

The clay blobs I call shenanigans on. I tried everything again. I feel like they would come from just one block but I tried every pattern in the 3×3 crafting system with no luck. I am curios if you could post a picture of what the mushrooms look like so I know what im looking for lol.

    • Jarryd says:

Thanks for your continued feedback Tyler. Shennanigans indeed, the missing images in the book were my first clue to that fact that they are a broken crafting material. As are Apples and mushrooms, thus the Crap salad, and bowl cannot be made in the Current build. I’ve fixed this, and it will go out in tomorow’s patch.

      • Tyler says:

Sweet :D oh Idk if there are any plans in the future for cactus. It does wonders to my health bar haha

        • Jarryd says:

It’s dialed up a bit, so we can jump on it and debug death and damage related systems. We’ll kick it back to normal later on, but for now, just don’t touch it. Use a stick at least to knock off a chunk. (The drop block version is harmles…. new game mechanic idea….hmmm….)
