5+ creatures to be in 2.3!

Fantastic news! A months work on writing a clean, recyclable and well design creature system has yielded wonders in the space of a single day. Today we have completed the following new creatures:

Zombie:

Hostile when you get close, deals a decent amount of damage. Zombies are extremely dangerous in groups. You will see them in v2.3

A group of Zombies wandering aimlessly.

Pig:

The pig is a common mythological creature, once incredibly rare in the world. They were bred by Wizards millennia ago due to them being so delicious and nutritious. No drop items as of now, but pork would be ideal, which can be processed further.  Also in 2.3, but may be missing drop items.

Some pigs that narrowly survived having a bomb hurled at them.

Sheep:

It could have been an alpaca or goat, but everyone knows what a sheep is and is for. If you’re from New Zealand, the correct answer would be wool and mutton. Will be in v2.3, but may not have wool or mutton drops.

A few sheep, one has had his wool removed, still need work.

Mushy:

The Mushy hides in the dirt, with a magic mushroom growing atop its “head”. The mages guild is still trying to figure out if the Mushy is the roots of the Magic Mushroom, or the Magic Mushroom is simply growing from this easily spooked little creature. Fully present in v2.3, however the effects of the magic mushroom are incomplete. Just don’t eat one.

Fire Elemental

A ranged magical enemy that has been delayed to v2.4. The fire elemental requires the implementation of Lava, and full liquid propagation. Hurls  fireballs.

Chicken:

A primary source of feathers for the Bow, and the first creature that was implemented. Fairly stupid, but will flee when attacked. Present in v2.3

The set is very creature heavy; due to the need for materials immediately needed for things the player needs very soon, such as feathers for the bow. More interesting creatures like the elementals require quite a bit more work than simple barnyard beasts, so you will see them a little later.

Another big addition, is improved smelting system. The smelter now fits 2×2 blocks, and is no longer dependent upon the order you put items is. Just chuck in 3 copper nuggets and an iron ingot in whatever order to begin creating Bronze. I’ll go into further detail regarding steel, Adamantum and bronze in a later post.

Thanks for reading!

NOTE REGARDING PLACEHOLDER ART:

The art is still all placeholders made by programmers. We’ll make it pretty later on, but for now we are just slamming in features!

Arrows stuck in the ground while attacking a Zombie.

Edit: 2×2 smelter, not 4×4. I meant 2×2 for a total of 4×4.

How come the UI is at the top now?

    • Jarryd says:

It’s an option I added a little while ago. I was digging, and found that it kept getting in the way. So I hacked in a swap, and found it was huge releif and proceeded to clean it up into a proper option.

It is NOT the default, but the option is in Gameplay settings.

why no whool dor the sheeps, to craft beds?

I’m excited about the new game play with monsters but am also loving the creative mode without having to worry about monsters. Will we still have the ability to play this way? Maybe with fly mode and unlimited resources and the ability to break through any block type in one chop?

I’d love to be able to build a palace and city both above and underground. I’d also love to be able to build boats that sail across the surface of the water.

    • Jarryd says:

There’s a new generator screen, with the option to play creative. The mode is incomplete, and locked out for now. You’ll see it in v2.4 or v2.5

  • JJ says:

Also, the zombies look like you took the body of MC’s zombies, and threw on a creeper head. Looks kind of odd. Maybe add more facial features and variation to the head? I know these aren’t the final models, but just some tips. Also the pigs look like cyborgs, but I assume this is because they are incomplete.

    When is v.2.3 coming out

  • Braxton says:

U should put In villages with villagers that build and trade with u

  • Lai-Lai says:

Best to avoid having the same creatures used in minecraft, especially if they’re the same colors.

Instead of green zombies use skin tones with visible bones, instead of sheep use goats/llamas/camels/alpacas (or at the very least give it horns & call them rams). Instead of pigs use boars or warthogs, instead of cows use bison or oxen, instead of skeletons use wraiths, instead of giant spiders use giant ants, instead of chicken use waterfowl or pheasants.

what does it matter it should have ice, flying, arrows, bombs, construction car.

    • Jarryd says:

We discussed that, and the result of bending our feature set to avoid another title would just damage CraftWorld. Everyone knows what a chicken is, however a forest fowl, quail or Jungle Hawk would all just be transparent and confusing to gamers. However, those other variations would make ideal permutations of the base creature.

Kinda like how an Ollyphant from Lord of the rings is an elephant, and so is a woolly mammoth.

no dont put villigers it would take away the point of the game then u dont have to work for anything u could add citys and cars oh and do that thing where u can make bacon from the pigs

COMMENT EDITED BY DEVELOPER: Pork is already in game, and I view the concept of “water elevators” as a bug. Plus, I try not to look watch or view anything related to Minecraft. I understand your point, and hope it was not rude of me to cut your comment.

I love the game so far, but you should put in a recipe for the die and the beach balls. I’ve already lost the ball even though I haven’t used it at all. :( Also, when are you going to make redstone/switches? The physics objects would be useful for puzzles and such. I know that it’s probably months away, but as for multiplayer it would be nice if you made private and public worlds just in case people don’t have friends with wp7, like me. (forever alone) Chat/voice chat would also be nice. Since you’re making lava for the elementals, you might as well make buckets. The last thing I want to suggest is the ability to swim in water. I would suggest double tapping and holding after the second tap in order to move up. Death from drowning is another suggestion. Thanks for reading, and I hope you get to making the game quick! ;)

Drowing/Swimming is disable for debug reasons.

The BeachBall and dice are hacks to prove the physics engine is real. Note the non-retro textures. Will improve later.

Redstone? I’ve got no idea how it works in Minecraft, nor care to learn. Check out this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Ha8fdO5bn0
It’s our other game Blast, with a powerful switch and logic system integrated into the physics. That is what you want.

Can you change the life bar? Make it hearts. Ittl b easier when attacked and other stuff

    • Jarryd says:

Hearts? No way man. That’s a Zelda thing. Maybe in a new peaceful mode though. The Healthbar will make more sense when the RPG system comes online.

  • austin says:

hey jarryd any hints and tips on how to make yur craft world look awesome so far i found out timber looks awesome

  • austin says:

how is pork already in the game

    • Jarryd says:

8 hours ago, I was working on the drop item logic for the creatures. I quickly whipped up a pork object, and the pigs drop between 1 and 3 when killed. Eat it for about 30 health. But the stove is not in the game yet, so you cannot cook it.

“In the game” means the version I have, the one that is not out yet in most cases. I know it can get confusing when we have 2 phone versions, an Xbox version, and a PC version.
